One of the most hated part in our school, when I was a child, is when we were required by our teacher to visit our school dentist. It's not like now where a search for dentist derby (for example) gives me a list of 7 dentists in my area, all of whom have their own website, and have all the latest technologies to deal with pain management. No, looking back to the past, for as long as I can remember, I have been absent most of the times when there is a scheduled dentist visit for our class. However, there was one instance when our teacher made a surprise announcement that we are going to the dentist clinic as a class. I was so afraid, thinking that the dentist will pull out all of my teeth. All of us in the class tried to act bravely, as if we aren't afraid, but I know that most of us are anxious about what will happen. However, it turns out that the dentist will just teach us the proper way of brushing our teeth, namely, in a circular motion. We are all relieved to know that there it was just a lesson of brushing. |

Being the owner of a health directory on the internet, I read a lot of anecdotes about going to the dentists. Let me give you one of my own anecdotes.
When I was twelve years old, I was struck in the mouth by a baseball. The resulting blow pushed my two front teeth back and damaged the roots. As a result I had to have a root canal that left the teeth dead. Over the next 7yrs. the teeth became noticeably darker, to the point they were grayish brown. They were very unappealing to look at. So I decided to have them whitened. The procedure was relatively simple. The first part involved grinding out the temporary caps on the back of the teeth. The next step was to put bleach capsules into the teeth. At this point the teeth were temporarily capped. Another appointment was made for 2 weeks later. When I returned the dentist removed the caps and took out the capsules. Two more capsules were inserted and I made another appointment for two weeks later. By the final time I returned, my teeth were noticeably whiter. The dentist removed the capsules and put permanent caps on the backs of my teeth. The overall experience was good. My teeth got whiter and my confidence returned. There was little pain involved, although he did once hit a nerve end that made me jump. |
